6 Ways to Spend Your Summer in North Carolina

Discover wallet-friendly summer activities in the Triangle for family and friends!
June 30, 2023

I think we can all agree that summer is a wonderful time of year! The sun shining through the overtly green trees, the blue skies creating space for outdoor adventures, and lake/beach days already in full-swing. To ensure you, your family and friends enjoy this summer to the fullest, we’ve put together a list of some wallet-friendly summer activities - that you can do right here in the Triangle!

Discover the North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA)

The NCMA is a prominent museum located in Raleigh that houses an impressive collection of art spanning over 5,000 years and features artists such as Monet, Warhol, and Rodin. It allows visitors the opportunity to appreciate and soak up artistic beauty while being surrounded by nature at the Museum Park through large-scale installations and walking and biking trails.

Take a Stroll through William B. Umstead State Park

Located between Raleigh and Durham, Umstead Park is a great place to enjoy several serene and scenic walking, hiking, and biking trails. It’s also a great place for barbequing, picnicking or fishing under a big shady tree.!

Enjoy Family Time at the Theater

We are fans of inexpensive activities during the summer, so your family can get the most out of vacations. That’s why an evening at Marquee Cinemas Wakefield, Regal Entertainment Group or the Paragon Theaters is a great idea as they show movies for under $2!

Get in Touch with Your Green Side at the North Carolina Botanical Gardens

Situated in Chapel Hill, this garden spans over 1,000 acres and showcases an extensive collection of native North Carolina plants. You can take a leisurely stroll through the various gardens, enjoy nature trails, and learn about the local flora.

Catch a Foul Ball at a Durham Bulls Baseball Game

This one’s a Durham-must! Don’t miss your chance to watch a local minor league baseball game at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The games are fun, family-friendly and the stadium offers a lively atmosphere, complete with fireworks at the end.

Dance Away at Local Festivals and Events

Throughout the summer, the Triangle hosts numerous festivals and events. The Wide-Open Bluegrass Festival is a favorite amongst locals and features a diverse lineup of bluegrass musicians and bands - traditional and contemporary - from around the world. In addition to the performances, the festival also hosts the IBMA Awards Show, where outstanding artists, bands, and industry professionals in the bluegrass genre are recognized for their achievements. Other events to keep an eye out for are the Raleigh Arts Festival and Durham Food Truck Rodeo!
